From InterAksyon (Feb 13): VIDEO | Gunsmith admits changing serial numbers of SAF men's guns
A screenshot from a News5 Everywhere video clip shows a gunsmith with his head covered in his discreet shop in Maguindanao and behind him is a firearm supposedly from one of the Fallen 44 SAF men.
For a fee of P500, a gunsmith in Maguindanao on Thursday admitted that he has altered the serial number of several firearms seized by MILF fighters from the 44 fallen PNP-SAF commandos.
This has come to light after the gunsmith told News5 that many of the stolen SAF firearms were brought to his discreet shop so that the gun’s serial number, Philippine National Police-Special Action Force logo and other markings can be changed.
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front on Tuesday vowed to return the firearms and personal belongings of the police commandos killed in the clash with its fighters in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25.

The MILF has started looking for the stolen guns and gadgets. It said that even if the firearms were already sold, it is willing to buy them back just to show its sincerity to the spirit of its peace agreement with government.
But the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, whose members were also involved in the encounter, were adamant in not returning the weapons they took from the dead police commandos.
“Kaaway namin sila. Bakit namin ibibigay ‘yung narecover na namin kung nakuha na namin? Hindi namin ibabalik ‘yun. Hindi kami baliw (They [SAF troopers] are our enemies. Why would we return what we have taken? We will not return them. We are not crazy),” said BIFF spokesperson Abu Misri Mama.
Among the weapons taken by the BIFF forces were four M16 rifles, two M203/grenade launchers, two Bushmaster rifles, one baby Armalite and one 90RR or bazooka.
If the firearms are not returned to the government, they will face charges of illegal possession of firearms and violation of the anti-fencing law.
