The Capiz-based 3rd Infantry Division on Monday said that its operating units have captured two New People's Army (NPA) camps during operations in Feb. 6 and 8.

Major Ray Tiongson, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, said the first rebel camp, which seemed to be abandoned, was captured by 82nd Infantry Battalion troopers at Sitio Tig-atay, Barangay Igpaho, Tubungan town, Iloilo during routine security operations.

He also said that the rebel facility could accommodate around 70 personnel and has 12 bunkers, 15 posts, two comfort rooms, one classroom and a kitchen.

While the second NPA base was discovered and captured at Sitio Tigmarabas, Barangay Ongyod, Miag-ao, Iloilo.

This camp can accommodate around 50 personnel and has 20 bunkers, five observation posts, two comfort rooms and one administrative building.

Army record shows that in 2014, a total of 42 NPA camps have been discovered by the troops of the 3rd Infantry Division in its area of responsibility.

Eighteen of which were in Panay and 24 were in Negros.

The 3rd Infantry Division is currently intensifying its peace and development efforts through “Bayanihan” and the focused military operations to ensure the security of the communities against armed threats.
