More than 50 Muslims held a lighting rally Tuesday at the
gate of the House of Representatives asking lawmakers to continue deliberations
for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
The Ad Hoc committee on the Bangsamoro has temporarily
deferred the deliberation of the measure as they decided to wait for the
results of ongoing investigations on the Mamasapano incident.
The “peace rallies,” which were simultaneously held in
various cities in Mindanao , were spearheaded
by the Mindanao Alliance for Peace (MAP) and allied civil society
organizations.
In their manifesto, MAP said the purpose of the mass action
is to ask both the House and Senate to immediately pass the version of the BBL
submitted by President Benigno S. Aquino III to Congress even despite the
outrage on the recent Mamasapano clash.
While condemning the death of the 44 police commandos of the
Special Action Force (SAF), the group said the BBL should be passed promptly so
that a similar incident will be avoided in the future.
“Please do not make peace, the BBL and the future of the
people here in Mindanao hostage of what had
happened in Mamasapano,” MAP said in their appeal.
The 44 SAF commandos of the Philippine National Police (PNP)
were killed during the Jan. 25 anti-terrorist operation in Mamasapano,
Maguindanao after clashing with the outlawed Bangsamo Islamic Freedom Fighters
(BIFF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to which the government has
an ongoing ceasefire agreement.
