Peace advocates will launch simultaneous peace rallies in the different parts of Mindanao including Metro Manila on February 10, 2015. Similar rallies will also be held in Isabela City, Basilan, Pagadian City, Cotabato City, Davao City, General Santos City, Tacurong City, Marawi City, Iligan City, Poblacion Pikit in North Cotabato, as well as in Quezon City.
These mass actions dubbed, “SIMULTANEOUS PEACE RALLIES IN SUPPORT OF THE BANGSAMORO BASIC LAW AS THE SOLUTION TO THE MINDANAO CONFLICT”, shall be led by the Mindanao Alliance for Peace (MAP) and allied Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
The objective of the mass actions is to show support to the call of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III for congress to fast track the passage of the BBL without further delay, while investigations on the January 25 Mamasapano incident are underway.
In a statement released by MAP, Dr. Abdulmanan Gayak said that “While we condemn in the highest form the unfortunate Mamasapano incident that led to the death of 44 SAF members, the martyrdom of 18 members of Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), wounding 12 others, and the killing of 4 innocent civilians, we sincerely address this appeal to the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines to once and for all, pass the BBL to avoid another Mamasapano incident in the future”.
”To all peace loving individuals and groups, locales and nationals, please unite with us, and help us realize our dream for a sustainable and lasting peace in the Bangsamoro as soon as possible. For it is always our conviction that prolonging this uncertain situation will always open opportunities for spoilers of peace to strengthen their ranks. We are afraid they might succeed in derailing the peace talks that will further aggravate the living conditions of both the Muslim and the Non-Muslim inhabitants of Bangsamoro”, Dr. Gayak further said in his statement..
Addressing his call to both Houses of congress, Dr. Gayak continued, “To reiterate, these peaceful mass actions are an appeal, “For the sake of sustainable peace and progress, pass the Bangsamoro Basic Law without undue delay. Please do not make peace, the BBL, and the future of the people here in Mindanao, as hostages of Mamasapano incident”.

“No Bangsamoro would ever want the so called SAF ‘Fallen 44, the martyred 18 BIAF combatants and the 4 innocent and helpless civilians to die senselessly. We have to remember that the more than four decades of unrest and violence in Mindanao had already claimed hundreds of thousands of precious lives and destroyed billions worth of resources. The 66 lives sacrificed in the January 25Mamasapano carnage were just another additional number to the already lost priceless lives due to this conflict. These are already enough, we the Bangsamoro do not want bloodsheds anymore, and additional loss of valuable lives and properties” Dr. Gayak added.
Dr. Gayak expresses his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to President Benigno Noynoy Aquino III for his sincerity to end the war in Mindanao which brought untold sufferings and miseries to all. He further called on all Filipino brothers and sisters irrespective of political and religious affiliations to join with them in supporting the president for he believes that the President’s unshaken commitment to resolve the conflict here in Mindanao is not for his personal interest but for the general welfare of the entire Filipino people as well.
