Misuari convenes 2-day meeting

From Tempo (Feb 17): Misuari convenes 2-day meeting

As the fate of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) hangs precariously, the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding Chairman Nur P. Misuari has convened a two-day meeting somewhere in Jolo, Sulu.

But it is not about disrupting peace in Mindanao as the fallout of the incident in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, continues to bedevil the peace nearly 18-years-old peace process between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Habib Mujahab Hashim, who chairs another group called the Islamic Command Council (MNLF-ICC), said this in an interview yesterday.

He said MNLF leaders from mainland Mindanao, particularly in Lanao del Sur, and from the island provinces of Basilan and Tawi-Tawi attended the meeting on February 14 and 15.

“Pending the final abrogation of the 1976 Tripoli Agreement, the mainstream MNLF is still about a peaceful resolution of the Mindanao problem,” said Hashim, an ally of Misuari, who has gone hiding since the September 2013 siege of Zamboanga City.
