MILF: Statement by the Embassy of Switzerland on January 30, 2015 on armed encounter at Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25

Posted to the MILF Website (Feb 1): Statement by the Embassy of Switzerland on January 30, 2015 on armed encounter at Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25

Switzerland is concerned and saddened by Sunday’s violent incident in Mamasapano, Maguindanao Province. We express our sincerest condolences to the families of all the victims.

It is Switzerland’s hope that this tragic event will not destabilize the ongoing peace process. More than ever, peace is needed now and under no circumstances should it be the ultimate victim of Sunday’s event. We welcome the Joint Statement signed in Kuala Lumpur on 29 January 20l5 by the panel chairs of the Philippine Government, Prof. Miriam Coronel Ferrer and the MILF, Mohagher Iqbal and witnessed by the Ma-laysian facilitator, Tengku Dato’ Ab Ghafar Tengku Mohamed.

Switzerland further welcomes the efforts undertaken to investigate the incident of last Sunday and the necessary follow-up to ensure that the rule of law is enforced and that such acts of violence will not happen again.

Switzerland remains committed to the peace process in Mindanao, among other things through its support of the Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Commission. In this regard, Switzerland stresses the importance of the timely implementation of all the measures foreseen in the Annex on Normalization of the Comprehensive Agree¬ment on the Bangsamoro.
