Arrest coup recruiters, SOLCOM chief tells men

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 18): Arrest coup recruiters, SOLCOM chief tells men

Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) head Major Gen. Ricardo Visaya on Wednesday gave his men the "green light" to arrest persons trying to recruit them for a possible coup d'etat against the government.

He added that he issued this order to scare would-be recruiters from entering his bases which are scattered all over Southern Tagalog.

SOLCOM has jurisdiction over the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Bicol, Sorsogon, Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.

However, he clarified that there are no reports from his area regarding coup recruiters.

The SOLCOM chief also expressed confidence that all his officers and enlisted personnel are dedicated and professional enough to distance themselves from such nefarious activities.

Visaya also stressed that soldiers and officers caught in this illegal activity could be charged and dismissed from the service.
