Government security forces intercepted a public utility jeepney carrying an improvised bomb in the downtown of Lamitan, Basilan Friday, January 2.

Police said army scout rangers invited two suspects for questioning.

Army rangers, who were alerted about the improvised explosive device, intercepted the vehicle at the oval near the commercial district of Lamitan at about 12:30 pm Friday.

The jeep had just arrived from the town of Al-Barka.

Military personnel immediately conducted a search operation and discovered the bomb inside a medium-sized carton box concealed by okra (lady's fingers).

The police said the bomb was composed of 2 kilos of ammonium nitrate, half a kilo of common nails, and a bottle of fuel gasoline as incendiary.

Names of the apprehended suspects were not released pending the investigation.
