Government authorities have foiled an attempt by lawless
elements to bomb a passenger jeep in Lamitan
City , Basilan province on
Friday.
Senior Insp. Gean Gallardo, Lamitan City
police chief, said this came after an improvised explosive device (IED) was
discovered shortly after noon Friday aboard a passenger jeep parked at the
public market.
Gallardo said the IED was placed in a basket full of
vegetables. The IED contains ammonium nitrate, wirings concrete nails and a
triggering device.
Gallardo said IED was safely defused by the military’s
explosive ordnance demolition (EOD) team.
He said they are conducting a thorough investigation in a bid
to identify the people behind the bombing attempt.
He also ordered his personnel to strengthen security around
the public market.
