From InterAksyon (Jan 31): Five army men wounded in ASG ambush in Patikul, Sulu
AT least five army soldiers were wounded on Friday afternoon after an undetermined number of armed men suspected to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) ambushed an army convoy at a remote village in Patikul, Sulu, military reports said over the weekend.
Reports reaching the Armed Forces of the Philippines General Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City indicated that perpetrators of the ambush were believed to belong to the so-called Ajang Ajang group.
The target was a convoy of the Army's 35th Infantry Battalion.
The reports said the ambush took place at around 3pm Friday along the main supply route in Sitio Panding, Brgy. Bungkaong in Patikul, Sulu.
Wounded were five soldiers, identified as Sgt. Opiniano Bawik Jr.; Cpl. Wilmar Monteo; Cpl. Sheriwineric Edena; Pvt. Jason Falcasantos and Pfc. Louie Hiloma.
The wounded troops are all assigned with the army's 35th Infantry Battalion stationed in the province of Sulu.
They were immediately evacuated to the nearest army hospital, while reinforcements were dispatched to go after the ASG bandits.
