The Abu Sayyaf Group on Christmas eve, December 24, released another kidnap-for-ransom victim, according to the military.

"Joint Task Group Sulu while implementing law enforcement operations successfully saved kidnap victim Michelle Panes in Jolo, Sulu," according Sulu island commander Colonel Allan Arrojado.

Panes was supposedly released by her captors 9 am on Wednesday at the vicinity of Bilaan in Talipao town in Sulu. Arrojado said a civilian found her and brought her to the military headquarters.

There is no word if ransom was paid to the Abu Sayyaf, which is responsible for a number of the country's worst terrorist attacks but which has in recent years focused its operations on kidnap-for-ransom activities.

Panes will be transferred to nearby Zamboanga City after a custodial debriefing, Arrojado added.

A number of hostages were released by the Abu Sayyaf since the military and the police launched in October intensified operations against them in Sulu.

The Abu Sayyaf earlier said that German couple Viktor Okonek and Henrike Dielen paid a ransom of P250-million ($5.6-million) in exchange for their freedom.

Pressure is on the military after President Benigno Aquino III vowed to wipe out the group.
