From Tempo (Nov 5): Cop’s killers hunted
Police authorities are hot on the trail of gunmen who shot and killed a police officer in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat, last Sunday.
Sultan Kudarat police director Rex dela Rosa said SPO4 Ruben Sabado, assigned to Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office, was driving his Honda XR 200 motorcycle when waylaid by two armed men on a motorcycle in Barangay Laguinding, Esperanza, around 7 p.m. on November 2.
The suspects carted away the victim’s motorcycle and .45-caliber pistol after they shot him.
The victim succumbed to three bullet wounds in the abdomen.
Dela Rosa said the suspects are believed to be carnap ring members preying on motorcycles even to the extent of killing their drivers.
He said police operatives raided on Tuesday a suspected hideout of the suspects in Barangay Laguinding and recovered several dismantled stolen motorcycles. The suspects managed to escape during the raid.
Intelligence reports disclosed that suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were out on a mission to seize motorcycles they would used for the group’s mobilization.
