Three members of the Philippine Marines and a civilian employee were killed and six other soldiers were seriously injured when the military truck they were riding plunged into a deep ravine Wednesday morning in Kantuba Hill in Ternate, Cavite.

Marine Corps commandant Maj. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo said the soldiers were based at the Marine Base Gregorio Lim in town.

They were on their way back to barracks from marketing chores at about 9:30 a.m. when the tragedy happened.

"We mourn for the death of our soldiers and one of our employees," Tanalgo said.

The names of the fatalities were withheld pending notification of their families.
