From the Manila Times (Oct 15): 3 rebels, 2 soldiers killed in Ifugao clash

The Mountain Province-based 54th Infantry Battalion on Wednesday said three rebels were also killed during the encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) remnants in Sitio Landing, Barangay Camandag, Asipulo town, Ifugao on Tuesday.

In the firefight that took place 7: 30 a.m., two troopers were killed while three others were wounded.

Capt. Jefferson Somera, 54th Infantry Battalion public affairs officer said that two squads of their “Bayanihan” teams were going about their road development project when they encountered the NPA band opposed to the project.

An hour-long firefight erupted which resulted in the death of three rebels and wounding of several others.

Somera said NPA casualties were seen being evacuated by troops in the area.

He added wounded government personnel are now in stable condition after treatment.

Additional forces were deployed to go after the retreating rebels.
