PIÑAN, Zamboanga del Norte: The 101st Infantry Brigade based at Barangay Del Pilar here has inaugurated on Monday the newly-paved circumferential road inside its compound.

Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Y. Uy together with the brigade’s newly promoted commander, Brigadier General (BGen.) Apolinario Alobba, led the ceremonial cutting of ribbon of the newly completed road project, witnessed by uniformed men and women and barangay officials.

The 152-meter circumferential road was constructed using the equipment of the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) and 750 bags of cement donated by the provincial government and other well-meaning individuals. The brigade provided for the labor as its counterpart to the said project.

Major Randy Veracion said the construction was done during weekends, as PEO’s heavy equipment were also used for its regular projects during weekdays.

Alobba thanked Governor Uy for the all-out support extended by the provincial government not only in the construction of the circumferential road but in all the activities undertaken by the brigade as well.

In another development, 29 soldiers of the 101st Bde were also honored and awarded with Certificates of Graduation after they had completed the two-week Disaster Response Operation Training (DROT).

Dr. Victor Bernido, area coordinator of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-Zamboanga del Norte said the training was conducted to enhance the capability of the soldiers to appropriately respond in times of disaster.

The training was conducted with trainers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Dipolog, Philippine Coast Guard and the Department of Health-Health Emergency Management Bureau (DOH-HEMB).

In their messages, Alobba and Uy exchanged words of appreciation, as the former thanking the support extended by the provincial government in all the brigade’s peace-related undertakings in the province, and the latter saying that the implementation of all the development projects was made possible due to the military’s comitment and dedication to maintain peace and order in the area.

The program was also attended by the pupils and teachers of Del Pilar Elementary School and the barangay officials of Del Pilar, Sigabe and Poblacion South all of this municipality.
