Lt. Gen. Gregorio Pio P. Catapang was appointed Wednesday to replace outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista who is scheduled to retire on July 18.

Prior to his appointment as AFP chief, Catapang served as the vice-chief-of-staff, a position he held since May.

He was the former head the Northern Luzon Command and7th Infantry Division.

He is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Dimalupig’ Class 1981.

A testimonial parade and review will be held on Friday at the general headquarters parade ground in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City to honor Bautista, followed by a change-of-command ceremony to be led by AFP commander-in-chief and President Benigno S. Aquino III.
