Troopers from the 1st Special Forces Battalion, a field unit of the Eastern Mindanao Command, has captured two New People's Army (NPA) firearms during an encounter with the rebel group in Sitio Kalanganan, San Vicente town, Bukidnon Tuesday early morning.
Capt. Alberto Caber, the command's spokesperson, said the 20-minute firefight took place around 5 a.m.
He added that their troops were responding to reports that the rebels were conducting extortion mission in the area.
One soldier was wounded in the firefight. Pursuing government units recovered an M-16 automatic rifle and a .45 caliber pistol belonging to the rebels.
“There is no let up against these criminals. We are supporting the PNP in their law enforcement operations," Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier Cruz III said.
He added that there will be no let up in their operations against the extortion and arson activities of the rebels.
