Troopers from the 30th Infantry Battalion have recovered the body of a female New People's Army (NPA) fighter in Mainit, Surigao Del Norte on Monday.
Major Christian Uy, 4th Infantry Division spokesperson, said soldiers recovered the body around 11:00 a.m. at the vicinity of
The 30th Infantry Battalion is a field unit of the Cagayan De Oro-based 4th Infantry Division.
He added that the body was recovered 400 meters away from the encounter scene where elements of the 30th Infantry Battalion battled it out with some 20 rebels last May 29.
Two NPA fighters were killed in this encounter aside from the recovery of three high-powered weapons.
"The troops were tracking the NPAs' route of withdrawal when they chanced upon a dead body of a female NPA," Uy said.
He added that the slain rebel is a member of the indigenous peoples under the Mamanwa Tribe, identified as “Ailen” by her former comrades.
"Ailen" was apparently left by her fleeing comrades beside a rock with a shrapnel wound at her right leg.
"Her wound was not fatal and she could have been saved if given the proper medical attention. Instead she was left by her comrades as they flee after the gunfight with the government troops," Uy pointed out.
“Another life have been wasted due to the neglect and inhumane practices of the NPAs. We call on our brothers and sisters especially in the indigenous peoples community to condemn these acts against humanity by the NPAs. They are only using you for their personal gains to sow more terror and suffering in your area. Without your support they cannot survive,” 4th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Ricardo R. Visaya stated.
