10th Infantry Division inks anti-human trafficking MOA with cops, NGO

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 13): 10th Infantry Division inks anti-human trafficking MOA with cops, NGO

The Davao City-based 10th Infantry Division, Philippine National Police Region XI and Global Impact Philippines Foundation inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on anti-human trafficking Friday morning.

Signing in behalf of the military unit was Major Gen. Ariel B. Bernardo, PNP Region XI representative Aaron N. Aquino and non-government organization (NGO)'s founding director Amy Muranko-Gahan.

This took place at the Felix Apolinario Naval Station in Panacan, Davao City around 8 a.m.

Under the MOA, both the PPN Regional Office XI and 10th Infantry Division, will conduct through its units, community awareness drives about human trafficking, to promote reporting of suspicious activities concerning human trafficking through a smart phone application “Freedom! Philippines”, and to provide support in case building against would-be perpetrators.

Global Impact is responsible in providing human expertise and technological support to the activities through its capacity, experience, and its partnership with US-based Orphan Secure Organization.

The MOA signing marks another milestone in convergence of private and public entities to fight social ills, in this case -- human trafficking, a human phenomenon said to affect some 27 million people globally.

“This is in further strengthening of our commitment against any form of human rights violation and human exploitation,” Bernardo concluded.
