The Philippine Army (PA) on Friday announced the first fatality in the fire and explosion that gutted the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) building at the Army Support Command in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Wednesday morning.

Lt. Col. Noel Detoyato, PA spokesperson, identified the fatality as Cpl. Bernabe Mota, 30, and a member of the EOD Battalion.

Mota sustained massive burns from the fire and died around 10:01 a.m. Friday at the AFP Medical Center.

"He was supposed to be transferred to East Avenue Medical Center burn unit this (Friday) morning," Detoyato said.

Mota leaves behind a daughter.

PA commander Lt. Gen. Hernando DCA Iriberri on Friday vowed to extend all possible assistance to the victims of the incident.

He made the pledged during his visit to the victims confined at the AFP Medical Center and Army General Hospital.

"Their welfare and immediate recovery is the primary concern of the PA at this point," Iriberri stated.
