From InterAksyon (May 9): AFP seizes guns, ammo, drug stuff after fresh clash with BIFF

The military’s 45th Infantry Battalion seized high-powered guns from suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters after an encounter early Friday morning in Barangay Zapakan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao, Col. Jener Del Rosario, the 1st Mechanized Brigade commander, reported.
Besides seizing guns, ammunition and uniforms, the Army also arrested several suspected BIFF members. They also seized a bag filled with drug paraphernalia like a weighing scale and sachets of suspected shabu.
The military turned over the suspected BIFF members to the National Polilce’s Criminal Investigation Detection Group; and the drug-related materials to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency office in the ARMM.
The military is keeping the seized firearms and ammunition.
No casualties were listed on the government side in the one-hour encounter that began 4 a.m. Friday, according to del Rosario.
Earlier Thursday morning, suspected BIFF members strafed the camp of the 45th IB and the 1st Mechanized Brigade Headquarters.
The fresh hostilities were sparked by the alleged shooting by soldiers of an ustadz in Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak town two days ago, claimed Abu Misrie Mama, BIFF spokesman.
The military in the entire province is now on alert as a result of the skirmishes.
