COTABATO CITY, Philippines -- The commander of the 6th Infantry Division, Major General Romeo Gapuz, retires Saturday as he turns the mandatory age of 56.
Gapuz bows out after 35 years in the service, the last years of which he said have been filled with major challenges.
Under his watch, the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which ended decades of fighting, was signed.
Gapuz is the only 6th ID commander to set foot at the MILF stronghold of Camp Darapanan.
The turnover of command for the division is scheduled on Monday and is expected to be graced by Armed Forces chief of staff General Emmanuel Bautista.
