FERNANDO AIRBASE, LIPA CITY, BATANGAS --Major Gen. Jeffrey Delgado who formally took over the 17, 500-strong Philippine Air Force Friday, vowed to continue implementing programs already laid out which would enhance the capability, professionalism and discipline of the PAF.

The new commanding general of the country's military air service made this statement during his assumption of command held at Fernando Air Base, Lipa City, Batangas.

"To the men and women of the PAF, I will lay down the direction of my leadership in simple terms. As our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, once said 'ang hindi lumingon sa pinangalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paruruunan' (those who refuse to trace their roots cannot move forward). That is why we shall continue the programs already laid out to enhance capability, professionalism and discipline, " Delgado stressed.

"And second, we shall set the direction of our future by aligning the PAF Flight Plan with the Department of National Defense and Armed Forces of the Philippines Transformation Roadmaps. This will guide our activities in pursuit of security sector reform," he added.

And to ensure the continued upgrade of the PAF, Delgado vowed to increase "back pressure and add more thrusts to propel the organization instep with the defense establishment, the national government and our valued stakeholders, we will never forget the 'Daang Matuwid' edict of the national leadership.

"And third, we shall build an organization that will ensure high levels of operational readiness to meet any contingency 24/7, propelling the Air Force to ably perform its mandate into the future will require learning strategy and character. Learning as we begin to receive and employ new weapons of higher technology and sophistication, strategize as we have smartly harness our enhanced capabilities to address current and emerging challenges in our environment," Delgado concluded.
