From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 25): 27 aluminum-hulled boats to be distributed for maritime security in Palawan 

Twenty seven (27) units of aluminum-hulled boats are due for distribution in several Palawan towns by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Provincial District to take care of the coastal areas and support the protection of the West Philippines Sea (WPS).

The boats we’re inaugurated during the 46th Founding Anniversary of the PCG in Palawan on April 23, according to Lt. Greanata Jude Thursday, with Vice Adm. Rodolfo Isorena.

Jude said the aluminum-hulled boats have 40 horse power capabilities, and will be used to increase maritime security. They will be distributed to PCG stations in the province to also speed up responses on maritime emergencies.

“With the new boats, patrol operations will also increase, and we are hoping that they will lessen the conduct of illegal maritime activities by unscrupulous individuals,” she said.

Meanwhile, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing took place too, between the PCG and the local government unit (LGU) of Kalayaan municipality for the provision of three teacher aides to teach at the Kalayaan Elementary School in the WPS.

The teacher aides, said Jude, will stay for three months in Kalayaan to serve as volunteers on rotation. They will be staying with other military personnel, who are stationed in the disputed region.

Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon Jr. of Kalayaan welcomed the MOA signing as a positive opportunity for families that have chosen to reside in the municipality.
