From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 31): Gazmin to ASEAN Defense Ministers meeting in Hawaii

Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Voltaire Gazmin will be attending the ASEAN Defense Ministers meeting in Hawaii.

He left the country for meeting Monday as the event is slated to begin by April 1 (American time).

DND Spokesman Dr. Peter Paul Galvez said the meeting is informal.

"(Gazmin) was invited by (US Defense Secretary) Chuck Hagel to the event during the June 2013 Shangri-La dialogue," he added.

But what would likely to be discussed is humanitarian assistance and disaster response, Galvez stressed.

ASEAN is a political and economic organization of ten countries located in Southeast Asia.

It consists of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
