Forty- eight New People's Army (NPA) fighters surrendered to the Army 8th and 68th Infantry Battalions in Maramag town, Bukidnon last March 22 and 24.
Philippine Army (PA) spokesperson Lt. Col. Noel Detoyato said that an initial 43 surrendered last Saturday coinciding with the Army's 117th founding anniversary.
These rebels belonged to the NPA’s Guerilla Front 6, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCRMC), operating in the areas of Bukidnon.
The group also turned over 36 assorted firearms which include M-14 carbines, M-16 automatic rifles, M-1 Garands, .45 pistols, and homemade shotguns.
On March 24, an additional five former NPA rebels also yielded to the same Army units.
They also surrendered seven assorted firearms.

The PA believes that the Armed Forces’ Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) "Bayanihan" continues to gain headway with the surrender of the 48 former rebels.
All Army operations were guided by the IPSP Bayanihan which advocates for the whole-of-nation approach in achieving peace.
Detoyato said the surrender can also be attributed to the effective collaboration among various stakeholders like the local government units and officials who support the Army’s campaign for peace.
