From InterAksyon (Feb  14): Soldier killed, scores wounded in govt-NPA clash in South Cotabato

A soldier was killed and an undetermined number of rebels were also killed and wounded after a fierce gunbattle Thursday between government troops and some 30 rebels in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Capt. Alberto Caber, spokesman of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), said the encounter at around 2:25 p.m. in the boundary of Barangay Ned and Sitio Lambantong, Barangay Lamfugon lasted for almost an hour.

Caber said: “We’ve one soldier killed. Based on reports of civilians who saw the withdrawing rebels, they were reportedly dragging their dead and wounded comrades.

Our troops on the ground continue to verify this as pursuit operations were ongoing.”
The name of the soldier-fatality has been withheld until his family is notified.
