From InterAksyon (Feb 20): High-powered firearms recovered from BIFF after brief firefight in Maguindanao

The military recovered high-powered firearms from Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) forces in Maguindanao around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

According to 6th Infantry Division Philippine Army spokesman Colonel Dickson Hermoso, troops from the Bravo Company of the 45th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Nabundas, Shariff Saydona Mustapha when suspected BIFF forces fired at them.

The firefight lasted some ten minutes before the rebels retreated toward the Liguasan Marsh and military reinforcements came, he said.

No military personnel were hurt but Hermoso wasn’t sure if the rebels suffered any casualty.

Among those recovered were two M16-Armalite rifles and one M14.
Pursuit operations are ongoing.

The BIFF split from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which entered into a peace agreement with the Philippine government in efforts to end the violence in Mindanao.
