The 12-man medical team visited Barangays Castillo, Salazar, Pitac and Alegre in Tibiao recently.
These four barangays are among the most remote areas of the town located in the hinterlands and mountains. Tibiao was among the hardest hit towns by super typhoon Yolanda last November 8.
A total of 90 patients were treated in Barangay Castillo, 74 in Barangay Salazar, about 200 in Barangay Pitac and 99 patients in Barangay Alegre.
The team, headed by Dra. Melanie Espina of the Royal Canadian Army whose grandfather is a Filipino, included a nurse and medical technicians. With the team were two Filipino-Canadians -- Capt. Christopher Daniel and Sub. Lt. Fred Niese.

Aside from medical missions, the Royal Canadian Armed forces also helped in relief distributions in remote areas in Antique which can be reached only by way of helicopters.
Capt. Daniel said they also distributed relief goods in the mountain barangays as well as in remote islands in the towns of Culasi and Caluya using three helicopters.
In Antique, the team also brought with them a Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment equipment that is capable of producing 5,000 liters of purified water.
The Municipal government headed by Mayor Gil Bandoja provided the Canadian team with sleeping quarters and helped the patients needing further medical treatment in hospitals by providing funds for their hospitalization.(
