Communist rebels attack multi-million piggery farm

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 30): Communist rebels attack multi-million piggery farm

Some 100 fully armed communist guerrillas of the New People’s Army (NPA) swooped down on a piggery farm in Libona, Bukidnon Wednesday morning, burned the stockyard and hacked 500 pigs.

Capt. Christian Uy, spokesperson of the army’s Public Affairs Division of the 4th Infantry Division here, said that the NPA rebels attacked the “Mega Farm,” a multi-million piggery farm that supply pork and beef products in all shopping malls here.

He said that the communist rebels disarmed the farm security guards and tied them up with nylon cords along with other farm workers before burning the stockyard and started hacking some 500 pigs.

Uy said the rebels also ordered the farm workers to go home.

According to Uy, the damaged to the farm could not be ascertained yet but that farm veterinarians reported that 50 pigs died of hacked wounds while the remaining survivors were undergoing treatment.

He said that an investigation had been going on to determine the motive of the attack.

  1. Best guess is that the motive for the attack is the refusal/failure of the piggery to pay "revolutionary taxes," a euphemism for plain old extortion payments, to the Maoist insurgents. It's all about the money.
