2 ASG men killed, 4 others wounded in Basilan encounter

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 7): 2 ASG men killed, 4 others wounded in Basilan encounter

Two Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands were killed while two more were wounded following an encounter with elements of 1st Scout Ranger Battalion and 64th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Mebak, Sumisip, Basilan Monday morning.

The encounter took place around 8 a.m., 1st Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Jefferson Somera said.

Also wounded in the firefight were two government troopers.

Security forces were conducting clearing operations in the Basilan Circumferential Road, to ensure the safety of motorists, when they encountered the ASG men led one Juhair Aliman aka "Botong".

The operation also intends to neutralize the lawless elements threatening the major thoroughfare along Barangays Sapah Bulak and Upper Cabengbeng both of Sumisip, Basilan.

Somera said the wounded ASG men were captured.

He added that the wounded were immediately transported to a nearby field hospital for treatment.

Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
