The unnecessary deaths especially those of civilians caught in the crossfire in Zamboanga City is a “huge sin” against Allah, said a high-ranking official of the Moro National Liberation Front based in Central Mindanao.

MNLF Yaqeen  National Task Force Chairman Hadji Abdullah Omar expressed this sentiment during a peace dialogue between the ground commanders of MNLF from North Cotabato and Maguindanao at the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division.

Even as they continue to support MNLF founding chairman Nur Misuari, Commander Mala Lidasan of Matanog, Maguindanao said he and his fellow MNLF ground commanders will not initiate similar actions in Central Mindanao.

For his part, 6th ID Commanding General Romeo Gapuz thanked the MNLF commanders for attending the peace dialogue. He said this indicates that they are for peace.

Among those who attended the dialogue are local officials from North Cotabato, led by Governor Emmylou Mendoza.

The peace dialogue was held in the face of information that some armed groups will cause violence in Central Mindanao, said Kabacan Mayor Herlo Guzman.

Earlier, a similar dialogue was organized by the 6th ID with local officials of Maguindanao and attended by many mayors and led by Governor Toto Mangudadatu.

The dialogues were held to ensure that the violence in Zamboanga City will not spread to Central Mindanao, said 6th ID spokesman Colonel Dicson Hermoso.
