Air Force unleashes 'calibrated air strike' on MNLF positions

From InterAksyon (Sep 16): Air Force unleashes 'calibrated air strike' on MNLF positions

The military Monday afternoon resorted to a “calibrated aerial strike” against positions of Nur Misuari’s loyalists from a faction of the Moro National Liberation (MNLF) in Zamboanga City, as the standoff that has paralyzed the city entered its eight day.

“Targeted air strike by Philippine Air Force ongoing. This is part of the calibrated military operations in the area. Please be guided,” the Twitter account of the city government said.

The head of the local Crisis Management Committee (CMC), Mayor Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, has confirmed the ongoing air strikes by MG520 helicopters.

The air strike started at around 12:30 p.m. and targeted identified MNLF positions in Barangay Sta. Catalina, where fighting had been fierce over the weekend.

The CMC said the heligunships were unleashing rockets.

Authorities had been very prudent in unleashing aerial strikes because dozens of civilians are still being used as human shields by the MNLF.
