Army encounters NPA in Surigao City

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 10): Army encounters NPA in Surigao City

Government troops from the 30th Infantry "Python" Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army while on a combat patrol encountered a team of the New People's Army which resulted in a firefight, Friday morning.

Army reports said that while their troops were on a combat patrol 10:47 a.m., Friday, at Sitio Brazil, Brgy. Mat-i in Surigao City, they encountered about five heavily armed NPA members believed to be members of Guerilla Front 16B of the Northeastern Mindanao Revolutionary Committee.

A three-minute firefight ensued before the rebels withdrew towards the northeast direction. There were no casualties however on the side of the government troops.

Hot pursuit operations by the government troops are now on against the fleeing rebels, the military said.
