From Malaya (Apr 26): NPA reb killed in Compostela

A NEW People’s Army rebel was killed yesterday while another was wounded and subsequently captured as government troops caught up with a rebel group that abducted a soldier in Maco, Compostela Valley Wednesday.

The troops clashed for about an hour with about 30 rebels in Apogon village, Nabunturan town around 9 a.m.

The abducted soldier, Pfc. Jesus Tomas, was not sighted during the fighting, said Maj. Emmanuel Garcia, deputy public affairs officer of the Armed Forces.

Soldiers retrieved a rebel body after yesterday’s clash, and recovered five M16 and an M14 rifle left behind by the rebels at the scene.

The wounded rebel was brought to a hospital.
