Military officer relieved for harassment

From the Philippine Star (Apr 28): Military officer relieved for harassment

An officer of the military based in Albay was relieved from his post while the members of his platoon were restricted to their quarters for allegedly harassing civilians and threatening policemen who tried to arrest them.

The officer, identified as 1st/Lieutenant Uniedy Omandam, was removed as leader of the 9th Infantry Division Disaster Response Platoon. Charges of acts of lasciviousness, unjust vexation and grave threats were set to be filed against him.

Reports said Omandam and his men reportedly harassed two women whom they mistook for sex workers in Legazpi City last Wednesday.

Maj. Angelo Guzman said Omandam reportedly threatened the policemen sought by the two women for help.

The policemen filed a complaint against Omandam’s group before the Community Police Assistance Center 2 (CPAC 2).
