Delegates from the local Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), International Monitoring Team (IMT) along with the Local Monitoring Team (LMT), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Philippine National Police fought in a friendship basketball tournament during the first ever OlymPeace aimed to bring together and foster unity among different peace stakeholders.
Other groups joining the tournament include the Moro National Liberation Front, media practitioners, and Sarangani provincial employees. The MILF delegates were sent by Malapatan Political Committee.
The event, which was integrated to the 4th Provincial Musabaqa (Madaris Intramurals), was held at the Provincial Gymnasium, Capitol Ground, Alabel, Sarangani Province from April 23-25, 2013 and hosted by the Provincial Government of Sarangani through the Kalinaw Sarangani Unit with the support of the IMT, LMT, and private partners.
During the opening program, Sarangani Governor Miguel Rene A. Dominguez said the friendship tournament is historic and cited “we can say that the symbol of peace and unity springs from our province.”
The governor, which will complete his three term of office by June this year, thanked the Asatidz (Madaris teachers) and parents pupils for the successful operation of Madaris education.
