Posted to the MILF Website (Apr 3): Bangsamoro Women Hold Assembly

The Bangsamoro Women, numbering several hundreds, held a one- day assembly last March 31, 2013 along the national highway at Pandag town in Maguindanao with the theme of “The Significance of Women’s Participation in Building the Bangsamoro.” The theme symbolizes women as forerunners in community development.

Engineer Muhajirin Ali, MILF Peace Panel Secretariat and guest speaker, delivered his speech and updated the attendees about the ongoing peace talks between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). He said that “The MILF have a firm position of completing the peace talks with the GPH until a Comprehensive Compact Peace Agreement is signed”.

“The struggle of Bangsamoro ancestors and the present Mujahideen shall serve as guidance for future Bangsamoro generations to continue the crusade towards right to self-determination. Strong faith in Allah is an effective instrument to achieve unity; peace and harmony; socio-economic development and political aspiration of the Bangsamoro people”, Engr. Ali emphasized.

“We have to prepare ourselves for future challenges in the advent of the Bangsamoro government that will pave the way for the struggle to reach its zenith”, Engineer Ali further said.

Ustadz Mohammad Pak of the MILF Dawah Central Committee conveyed the message of greetings of the MILF Central Committee to the organizers and participants to the assembly. He stressed that Bangsamoro women shall continue their role as model and inspiration for the Bangsamoro youth as they play important role in nation building.

Dr. Abdulmanan Gayak, Chairman of the Mindanao Alliances for Peace (MAP) represented the Office of the 1st MILF Vice Chairman Gadzali Jafaar to the assembly and delved on the salient features of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

He mentioned a great similarity of the FAB with the Hudaybiya Agreement during the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)

Aleema Saguira Pendaliday, Chairperson of SWC National Dawah Committee, encouraged the women in attendance to continue their efforts in serving the Bangsamoro people by setting themselves as good example for other women in the way they dress that signifies Moro Women identity and supporting the Framework Agreement on Bangsamoro.

Aleema Salama Abdulrahman, Chairperson of SWC National Education Committee emphasized the importance of women in child’s upbringing, community development as well as in nation building. As mother or wife, they can contribute to the success of their children or husbands in realizing their undertakings for the betterment of their respective households, neighborhood and in communities where they live.

She also said that, “every man was begotten by his mother who endured so much pain and sacrifices in the course of molding her children until they learn to live on their own.

The said assembly well attended by a large crowd includes some local government officials, traditional leaders and representatives from the MILF Central Committee led by Sheikh Khalifa Nando; Ustadz Mohammad Fak; Dr. Gayak and Engineer Ali. Also present were members of the 109th BIAF Base Command and Damakling Provincial Police Force who served as security of the assembly area.

Prof. Esmael A. Abdula, member of BLMI-Steering Committee also attended. In an interview, Prof. Abdula said that, “It is high time for the Bangsamoro Women to consolidate their ranks and help realize the aspiration of the Moro People for the right to self- determination. History can attest that even during the martial law era, many Bangsamoro Women sacrificed their lives and countless were victims of massacres and other inhuman treatment. In the Colong-Colong Massacre in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, hundreds of Moro women and men were rounded up inside a mosque and mercilessly killed by government troops.”

At present, Bangsamoro Women continue to play vital roles in the Moro Struggle. Most of them are behind their husbands in their quest to regain the long lost Freedom of the Bangsamoro People. In the crafting of the Bangsamoro Basic Law, Bangsamoro women like Atty. Raissa H. Jajurie from the MILF and Fatmawati T. Salapuddin from the GPH, are among the women members of the Bangsamoro Transitional Commission.
