Go to Negros ambush site to find the truth, AFP dares NDF's Jalandoni

From InterAksyon (Feb 10): Go to Negros ambush site to find the truth, AFP dares NDF's Jalandoni

The Philippine Army in Western Visayas challenged Luis Jalandoni, chief negotiator of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) to visit La Castellana in Negros Occidental where New People's Army (NPA) rebels recently killed nine people, mostly civilians.

This, after Jalandoni justified the NPA rebels’ action by saying those on board the truck fired first at the rebels manning a checkpoint. Jalandoni claimed the rebels also seized three high-powered firearms from the victims.

Jalandoni also denied that the victims were shot in the head.

But Major General Jose Mabanta, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said investigation conducted by the scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) and witness accounts indicate that the victims were shot in the head.

“We are challenging Jalandoni to come out of his comfort zone in the Netherlands and go straight to La Castellana to see for himself what really transpired last January 27, 2013.” Mabanta said Sunday.

He again urged the leadership of the NDFP and the NPA to surrender to authorities the people behind the incident.

"The government will pursue the case and see to it that the Rule of Law must be applied to all," Mabanta said.
