The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) conducts the 3rd Phase Training of Tahderiyyah Teachers at Tiboli Hotel, General Santos City on February 5-8, 2013which was attended by 50 Madrasa teachers from the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and General Santos City.

The training was aimed to enhance the teaching skills of the participating teachers, an effort to help improve the quality of education of Tahderiyyah (pre-school) of 50 target Madrasa in Southern Mindanao.

It is part of the Tahderiyyah Curriculum Program (TCP) which has been implemented by BDA since 2008. The program, implemented in partnership with UNICEF and funded by AusAid, generally aims to provide Moro children ages 3-5 with access to quality education.

Advance teaching methodologies for the pre-schoolers to learn and understand their “family and community” was the focus of the training which is 3rd part of the series of training for 300 Madrasah expansionall over Mindanao and island provinces.

The program, which started with 17 pilot Madrasah in 2008, includes the development of curriculum and teachers manual which was recently translated into local dialects.

Aside from training of teachers, TCP also provide teaching and learning materials and conduct community mobilization activities in support to Tahderiyyah sustainability.

Madrasah administrators and Development Catalysts were also trained on enhanced curriculum.
Children who complete the Tahderiyyah curriculum will be eligible to be admitted to grade one since the curriculum is compliant with the requirements of the Department of Education.

The training was facilitated by Teacher Jing Pascual and pool of Tahderiyyah trainers namely Ust. Mohaliden Kudanding, Ust. Abdulrahman Andaman, Ustdza Sittie Abdullah, Ust. Mohamad Daud Ambod, and Ust. Anwar Salisipan.

Kahdidia Glang, 52 year old teacher from Madrasah Nurrol islamiya, Kabuling, Palimbang SultanKudarat Province, expressed gratitude for the learning they got from the training.

In local vernacular, she said, “Before, we used traditional method of teaching, but through the trainings, we learned and apply varied methods of teaching the children which made them be more active and participative.”

“We also learned how to approach the kids, understand their behaviour and capacities and we became more flexible now,” she added.
