From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 16): Armed men abduct paramilitary member in Surigao del Sur

Suspected rebels have abducted a member of the Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) group in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur on Thursday afternoon.

Belated reports from the Surigao del Sur police to the police regional headquarters here identified the victim as Ronald Macasarte, 20, assigned at the 23rd Infantry Battalion Philippine Army Patrol Base in Brgy. Sta. Juana, Tagbina town. Macasarte was on his way to his farm Thursday afternoon when the armed group forcibly took him. The group, police said, is led by a certain alias Henry of SECOM 14 of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee of the New People's Army (NPA). Joint police and military operations is ongoing to rescue the victim.
