From the Philippine Star (Jan 14): Gov't
assures equal protection under Bangsamoro
The government today assured that all people who will be covered by the new
Bangsomoro entity will get equal protection.
Chief peace negotiator Miriam Colonel-Ferrer made the assurance following the
concerns raised by some groups that insecurity, land issues and political
marginalization will worsen under the proposed Bangsamoro. "There will be equal protection for all in the new political entity that will
be called the Bangsamoro," said Ferrer. She stressed, however, that apprehensions over insecurity, land issues and
political marginalization did not result from the framework agreement on the
Bangsamoro (FAB). "They are part of the unacceptable status quo that we now wish to transform
through the peace process," she said. The creation of the Bangsamoro is contained in the FAB that was signed
between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in
October last year.
