The extrajudicial killings in Mindanao prove that hundreds of Jovito Palparans
exist in the military, contrary to the claims of a high military official that
the so-called “berdugo (butcher)” was the last of his kind, Bayan Muna Rep. Neri
Colmenares said.... Colmenares and several members of the House committee on justice, chaired by
Rep. Rene Relampagos of Bohol, are in the city for the two-day hearing on
extrajudicial killings until Friday.... “Listening to their stories alone will expose as a lie the Army’s claim that
Palparan is the last of his kind in the Philippine Army,” Colmenares said. “The
rising incidence of human rights violations in Mindanao alone will prove there
are still hundreds of Palparans roaming around.” ....

Bayan Muna (People First) is a CPP-affiliated party list political party. Neri Colmenares is a long-time CPP front group activist. His association with CPP front organizations dates back to the late 1970s when he reportedly was an activist associated with the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) and the Student Christian Movement of the Philippines (SCMP) both CPP student front groups.
