From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 15): Framework peace agreement will allow
AFP to focus on external defense duties --Burgos
Col. Arnulfo M. Burgos Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson,
said on Monday the signing of the historic framework agreement for peace between
the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will now
allow the military to focus on its external defense duties.
"With the framework agreement now in place, peace will reign in Mindanao,
allowing the AFP to focus on external defense," he stressed.... Burgos also clarified that military units will remain in Mindanao to protect
the gains of peace....
