AFP officer retires to accolades

From Malaya (Oct 23): AFP officer retires to accolades

A CONSUMMATE military officer, AFP vice chief Lt. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu, has retired from the service, more than two years after he was kicked upstairs by President Aquino. Lt. Gen. Gregorio Macapagal, AFP deputy chief, has assumed Mapagu’s post in concurrent acting capacity until Aquino designates a new No. 2 man for the AFP. Mapagu reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 yesterday but left the service Friday last week, ahead of his retirement date, so he could celebrate his birthday with his family.... Dellosa described Mapagu as “a true gentleman who saw excellence in the face of challenges that confronted the AFP the past several years.” “His professionalism and focus in contributing to the implementation of reforms were instrumental in ensuring that the military organization he holds dearly continues to enjoy the trust and confidence of the Filipino people,” said Dellosa.
