From the Mindanao Examiner (Sep 27): Young Filipinos finish 4-day army summit


Some 187 young leaders from 14 villages of Davao Oriental’s Banaybanay have joined the four-day Youth Leadership Summit organized by the Philippine Army in an effort to win peace in the southern province.... The YLS is a character-based leadership for the youth that aims to inculcate the virtues of patriotism, awareness against drug addiction, threat situation and deeper environmental concerns....

  1. Effort by Philippine Army to engage youth early, instill sense of partiotism, and innoculate them against potential recruitment efforts by local insurgents.
