THE 1001ST Infantry (Pag-asa) Brigade deployed its personnel to assist the local government units of Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte in disaster relief and rescue amid the widespread flooding on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
Both provinces were affected by heavy rains that flooded low-lying areas.
Major Roberto Escalona Jr., the brigade’s civil-military operation officer, said their disaster response unit is always on standby to assist LGUs.
The units comprise teams from its operationally controlled units, the 25th and 60th infantry battalions, together with the respective municipal disaster risk reduction offices, and the emergency response company.
According to the report, hundreds of affected families were successfully rescued and brought to safer grounds. Also, there was no reported casualty or injury during the operations.
Brigadier General Ronnie Babac, brigade commander, lauded the soldiers on the ground.
“I really appreciate your swift actions in responding to incidents like this. Time and again, you have proven that the Army in this part of the region is a reliable partner of the local government and the communities in times of need. Let us continue our monitoring and be prepared always to assist the communities when needed.” Babac said.
The 1001st Brigade covers Davao de Oro, the municipalities of Asuncion, New Corella, Kapalong, and San Isidro, Tagum City in Davao del Norte, and the municipalities of Veruela, Loreto, Sta Josefa and two barangays of Lapaz in Agusan del Sur.
