Justice served for Army soldier slain by NPA

From the Visayan Daily Star (Jan 22, 2024): Justice served for Army soldier slain by NPA (By  GILBERT P. BAYORAN)

More than three years after he was murdered in an ambush perpetrated by New People’s Army rebels in Brgy. Luz Sikatuna, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, justice has been served to slain Army Cpl. Mark Anthony Quiocson, according to Brig. Gen. Orlando Edralin, the 303rd Infantry Brigade commander.

Edralin reported that the caliber .45 pistol taken by his rebel ambushers from Quiocson, a Community Support Program team operator of the 62nd Infantry Battalion, was among the three firearms recovered by Army soldiers after an encounter on January 17 in Brgy. Sag-ang La Castellana, Negros Occidental, where two NPA members died.

With the positive identification of the firearm belonging to the late CPl. Quiocson, Edralin said it is clear evidence that they were behind the gruesome murder.

Driving his KLX 150 Kawasaki motorcycle, Quiocson was on his way to rejoin other CSP team members on July 1, 2020, when he was ambushed by NPA rebels who also took his service firearm, wallet containing cash and identification cards, and other personal belongings.

Edralin said that other NPA rebels who were behind his death should pay for all their acts, which include claiming the life of a dedicated Army soldier, who was performing his duty in securing the peace and safety of Negrosanons.*
