A member of the New People’s Army who died in an encounter with Army soldiers on April 20, in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, was identified and claimed yesterday by his family, disclosed Lt. Col. J Jay Javines, commander of the 79th Infantry Battalion.

Javines identified the slain NPA member, as Armado Atoy, with aliases of Ka Jun Jun and Atoy, among the remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front and a resident of Hacienda Pura, Brgy. San Pablo, Manapla.


He added that remains of Atoy was claimed yesterday by his family, who brought him to their residence in Brgy. Pablo, Manapla.

The Escalante encounter on April 30 also resulted in the slight injuries to two 79IB soldiers and the recovery of one M14 assault rifle, three rifle grenades, three 40mm High Explosive Grenades, and personal belongings of the fleeing rebels.

Javines confirmed that his troops encountered the group of Roger Fabillar, alias Arnel Tapang, for the second time in Escalante City, following an earlier with the same group in Brgy. San Isidro, Toboso.

Fabillar, whose group is linked to the assassination of two barangay officials and two other civilians in Calatrava and Toboso hinterlands, has a bounty of P900,000 for his arrest.
