MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. on Thursday awarded medals to two police officers who got wounded during an encounter with New People's Army (NPA) insurgents in San Remigio, Antique on Dec. 11, 2022.

Azurin awarded the "Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting" (PNP Wounded Medal) to Cpl. Jomer Clamor Yamuyam and Patrolman Danmer Dela Torre Cruz during his visit at the Iloilo hospital where the two are being treated.

Aside from the medals, financial assistance was also given to the two wounded police officers and their families.


The two were wounded during patrol operations launched in response to reports of NPA members vandalizing the Green House, a government owned vegetable plantation.

According to reports, upon arrival of the responding team in the area, more or less 16 NPAs members with long firearms engaged in armed encounter with the PNP personnel which resulted in Yamuyam and Cruz being wounded.


They were immediately brought to the nearest hospital and are now in stable condition.
